RE: CONTINUATION OF SECOND LIFE OPERATIONS
DECEMBER 26, 2016
In my Monday announcement, I had to share the difficult decision to close the Alliance Navy's simulator. However, let me reiterate that the Alliance Navy is not dead. We will fight on in other places, and we will continue to fight in Second Life.
Effective immediately, Proteus Hand will become the head of the Alliance Navy's operations in Second Life. While he will answer to me directly, I intend for him to be the final word on most issues concerning Second Life, including decisions regarding structure, discipline, and development. Going forward, discussion of our internal and external Second Life affairs should be addressed with Proteus directly.
At this time, at Proteus' initiative, we are announcing significant changes to our Second Life Chain of Command based on these principles:
- In Second Life, our group will require significantly less administrative work to be effective, and by extension, it will require fewer levels of leadership;
- The role of NCOs will shift from being focused on administrative affairs to leading raids and generating combat content for Second Life participants; and,
- Positions should be primarily tied to activity, rather than tenure or administrative competence.
You may view the interim Chain of Command chart here. We currently do not anticipate keeping squads as an organizational concept going forward, but they may return in the future. Other personnel will be added to the chart at the Enlisted level after Proteus' Roll Call concludes on January 7th.
